Why did the Romans come to Caledonia?

Description

The Romans came to Scotland to conquer new land, in search of natural resources such as silver and gold. They also needed a constant supply of slaves and there is evidence that slaves were used by the Romans in Scotland.

Classroom Ideas

Students could discuss what items they would bring with them for the invasion of an unknown land. How would the students treat the natives when they arrived? How would they treat their slaves? Students could role-play landing on a foreign and unknown land.
