We鈥檙e at the Polygons annual party. It鈥檚 polygons only so to get a ticket, you have to be a 2D shape, with straight sides.
Polygons can be grouped based the number of sides they have.
So let鈥檚 meet the different gangs鈥
Excellent showing from the quadrilaterals this year, they鈥檙e all the four-sided shapes with internal angles that total 360 degrees.
So who have we got here then?
Oh of course, the Square, hi. Rectangle, who you doing? Rhombus, always a pleasure. Parallelogram, charmed. Kite! Looking great. And Trapezium, what a legend.

Urgh, uh hello. It鈥檚 the irregular polygons. This bunch have sides of different lengths and different angles.
They鈥檙e generally just quite, well, irregular. You guys enjoying yourselves? Hmm let鈥檚 move on, cheers all!

Pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon and eh鈥 who鈥檚 -? Circle!
Circle, you haven鈥檛 got any straight sides. You鈥檙e not a polygon are you?

Polygon party
Only 2D shapes with straight sides are invited to the polygon party.
Quadrilaterals
Quadrilaterals have 4 sides and their internal angles add up to 360掳.
Square, rectangle, rhombus, parallelogram, kite and trapezium are all quadrilaterals.
Triangles
Triangles have 3 sides. Their internal angles add up to 180掳.
The types of triangle are isosceles, equilateral, scalene, and right-angled.
Irregular polygons
Irregular polygons have sides of different lengths and angles.
Regular polygons
There are names for other shapes with sides of the same length.
These include pentagon which has 5 sides, hexagon has 6, heptagon has 7, and octagon has 8 sides.
