TEACHER: Hi kids! Do you want to learn about the miracles of Jesus today?
THOMAS: A miracle? What鈥檚 that?
TEACHER: In the Bible, a miracle is an act or event that stretches beyond what is understood by science and nature. It is something un-explainable鈥 extraordinary even, that Christians believe to be caused by God acting through Jesus.
NORA: Umm, I鈥檓 not sure I get what you mean鈥
TEACHER: Maybe if I show you you鈥檒l understand a bit better!
As the children nod, we see the inside of the house. We see Jesus, a man and woman standing, and a paralysed man lying on a mat by Jesus' feet.
TEACHER: According to the Bible, Jesus travelled far and wide spreading the word of God. He healed sick people, like this man here. The man was paralysed, which meant he couldn't move his body.
NORA/THOMAS: Oh, no!
TEACHER: Watch closely. The people at the house believed that Jesus could heal the paralysed man. Because of their faith, Jesus cured the man, telling him his sins were forgiven, and to "get up and walk."
*The man rises to his feet. The children are shocked. *
NORA/THOMAS: Wow!
TEACHER: Christians read about many more miracles like this in the Bible, where Jesus is said to have healed people of their illnesses. It was acts like these that helped people to believe in God.
We see the healed man standing with Jesus and smiling with gratitude.
Jesus was kind to others
Christians believe that Jesus is a special person.
He is the son of God and Christians often pray to him.
The second part of the Bible is called the New Testament. It tells us about the life of Jesus.
Christians believe that the stories in the New Testament are to help guide them to live a good life.
Amazing things
Some stories about Jesus show us how we should treat each other.
Other stories tell us about the amazing things Jesus did when he was on Earth.
These amazing things, which we cannot explain, are called miracles.
Some of Jesus鈥 miracles
Jesus helped heal people, such as in the story of Blind Bartimaeus (John 9:1-7).
He fed 5000 people with only five loaves of bread and two fish (John 6: 5-14).
Jesus changed water into wine (John 2:1-11).
He also controlled nature, such as in the miracle of calming the storm (Matthew 8: 23-27).
What do the miracles teach us?
Reading about Jesus鈥 miracles can:
鈥 teach us that Jesus had the power of God, as His son
鈥 remind us that anything is possible for God
鈥 strengthen our belief in God
