We鈥檙e in the classroom. Our three characters sit at the same table all working on creating thank you cards for their mums and dads. Patrick and Kim are happy as Larry working away. Beth is looking sadly at her card. Jeanie comes over to Beth.
NARRATOR: The class has been set the task of making thank you cards for their Mums and Dads. Patrick and Kim are having a great time, but Beth doesn鈥檛 seem to be having much fun鈥
JEANIE: What鈥檚 the matter Beth? Are you having trouble with the card?
Beth鈥檚 all sniffly.
BETH: N鈥o. I just鈥 I鈥檓 doing it wrong. Everyone鈥檚 making one for their mum and dad, but I only have one dad and no mum.
Beth鈥檚 looking up at Jeanie with her big watery eyes.
JEANIE: That鈥檚 OK Beth! Lots of people only have one Dad and no Mum, or a Mum and no Dad. In fact some people have two Mums or two Dads. Maybe for your thank you card you could write it to Dad and someone else who helps you out?
Beth looks reassured. Some time passes.
JEANIE: So Beth. Who did you decide to make your card out to? Was it just to Dad or did you write it to someone else?
BETH: Nope! My card is for Dad and Pudding. My cat.
JEANIE: Fantastic! And what is it you want to thank them for?
BETH: Hmmm鈥 I鈥檓 not sure?
JEANIE: Well, writing is a great way to tell people things that sometimes aren鈥檛 that easy to say. We can even write stories and rhymes too! Is there anything your Dad and Pudding do for you that you want to thank them for?
BETH: Well, my Dad is the BEST at making chocolate spread sandwiches. And鈥 he tucks me in every night.
JEANIE: Great! Your Dad sounds fantastic. And what about Pudding? What would you like to thank him for?
BETH: Well Pudding is my best friend. He always listens to me when I tell him stories.
JEANIE: Pudding sounds like quite the cat. Lets make their card shall we.
Jeanie and Beth work together to make the card.
NARRATOR: Beth's Dad and Pudding are going to love their thank-you card! What other things can writing be good for?
Beth holds her card up proudly.
End.
