Beliefs, teachings & practices - Unit 1
The concept of God
The faith of many religions is centred on a God or gods. One of the main Jewish beliefs is that there is just one God, and that he alone should be worshipped.
Sacred places
The synagogue and the home are both considered to be sacred places for the different movements of Judaism, namely Orthodox, Reform and Liberal Jews.
Practices
All religions have different practices which are unique to their faith and beliefs. Jews recite the Shema, show respect to God in various ways, and wear certain clothes to express their identity.
Worship at home
The home is an important place of worship in Judaism. There are challenges and benefits of observing Shabbat, and food rules that some Jews stick to in the home.
Worship in the synagogue
The synagogue is a place of worship for Jews. Synagogues have different internal features. Jews read the Torah during worship, and Orthodox and Reform synagogues have diverse practices.
