Shopping and Chinese medicine
Description
Downtown Beijing is full of shops and there are a few streets where they offer more traditional arts and crafts, such as Liulichang. Rongbaozhai, the most famous art shop, sells exquisite paintings with heavy Buddhist and Daoist influences. Specialising in something completely different is Tongrentang, a famous chain store that sells all sorts of Chinese medicines, still preferred by many to Western pills.
Classroom Ideas
Prepare questions related to Chinese medicine and how it differs from Western medicine. Print out a sheet for each student. The students need to answer the questions while watching the clip. Students can discuss their answers with the person who sits next to them and agree on an answer for each question. Explain the answers and point out where they have been mentioned in the clip while replaying it.
