Some verbs in Spanish are irregular
But there are irregular verbs! The big two you need to know are 鈥榯o go鈥 - 鈥榠谤鈥 and 鈥榯o be鈥 - 鈥荣别谤鈥.
Luckily, they鈥檙e both the same in the preterite. They become: 鈥榝ui鈥, 鈥榝uiste鈥, 鈥榝耻别鈥, 鈥榝uimos鈥, 鈥榝uisteis鈥, 鈥榝ueron鈥.
鈥楩ui a la piscina鈥 I went to the swimming pool.
鈥楩ue un gran actor鈥 He was a great actor. But you don鈥檛 just want to tell someone what happened, you also want to tell them what it was like. All you need is 鈥榝耻别鈥 (鈥榠t was鈥), plus an adjective.

Some of the most common verbs in Spanish are irregular. This means that they don鈥檛 follow the usual pattern in the preterite tense. They have to be learned separately.
