A trip to a school in the countryside

Description

People who live in cities tend to be close to all the facilities they need. Living in the countryside means that some people have to travel long distances to reach facilities. Two girls travel from their home in Kilchoan to school in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Their journey involves a walk and a ferry trip. This is time-consuming and reliant on the weather.

Classroom Ideas

Students could brainstorm the differences between cities and the countryside. Students could also be given Venn diagrams to complete as words are called out. For example 鈥榮heep鈥, 鈥榖oats鈥, 鈥榗inemas鈥.

What are the benefits of living in the countryside? What about the city? Students could prepare a presentation for the class in which they state if they prefer the city or countryside and why.
