All nouns in Spanish have a gender that affects which article is used and any adjectives that describe it. There are rules to help work out the likely gender of nouns.
Singular and plural nouns in Spanish
Nouns in Spanish have different forms in the singular and plural. There are some rules to follow to work out how to change the end of a noun to make it plural.
Articles in Spanish
In Spanish, articles depend on the gender of the noun that follows. Definite articles are ‘el’, ‘la’, ‘los’ and ‘las’. Indefinite articles are ‘un’, ‘una’, ‘unos’ and ‘unas’.
Differences in how articles are used in Spanish
Use definite articles with days of the week, generic nouns, body parts, personal items. Do not use indefinite articles with jobs and in front of certain specific words.
