This event has been organised by Sandwell Central Libraries as part of their 100 year anniversary, and represents a real coup for the borough. ![]() 'Bitter Sweets' by Roopa Farooki Roopa FarookiAt 1.00pm Roopa Farooki, nominated for this year's Orange Broadband Prize for New Writers, will be here to talk about her latest book 'Bitter Sweets'. Bitter Sweets is Roopa Farooki's first novel; it explores the effects of deceit across three generations of an unusual family, for whom the truth is, as Oscar Wilde put it "rarely pure and never simple". Roopa was born in Lahore, Pakistan and came to the UK when she was seven months old and was brought up in central London. Roopa is enjoying her writing so much she has already completed her second novel and is now hard at work on her third. Jeffery DeaverAt 7.00pm best selling author Jeffery Deaver will be on hand to talk about his books including his new title 'The Sleeping Doll', a dark and multilayered psychological thriller about a vicious killer's escape from a California super-prison and the mysterious and deadly quest he embarks on once he's free. ![]() Multi-award winner Jeffrey Deaver The author of 22 novels and two collections of short stories, Deaver has been nominated for six Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America, an Anthony award, a Gumshoe Award, and is a three-time recipient of the Ellery Queen Reader's Award for Best Short Story of the Year. Translated into 25 languages, his novels have appeared on a number of bestseller lists around the world, including the New York Times, The Times of London, and the Los Angeles Times. This is his only book talk in the Midlands. Both events will be held in West Bromwich Town Hall and tickets for both events are 拢3 full price and 拢1.50 concessions.
