The parade through Sedgley

The celebrations took place on Saturday 26th April 2008 with a traditional parade through Sedgley town centre.

The procession marched to the nearby Vicar Street Gardens where the Mayor of Dudley addressed the gathered crowd and dozens of red and white balloons were released.

Entertainment began with singer Maggie O' Hara performing various nationalistic songs, including Jerusalem and Pomp & Circumstance.

Comedy duo Brum and Dudley showed off their acrobatic skills, a 10ft tall knight posed for photos and re-enactment specialists Drudian staged mock battles between armour-clad knights.

Children from Dormston School made this year's giant dragon and pupils from Alder Coppice and Queen Victoria schools sang and danced for the crowds.

Dudley has enjoyed successful St. George's Day parades over the last three years in Halesowen, Dudley and Stourbridge respectively.

St George's Day around the Black Country

In Sandwell, St George's Day was celebrated听in Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich, on Sunday 20th April.

Walsall's St George's Day celebrations were held in the town centre on Saturday 19 April.

Wolverhampton marked St George's Day with a range of family events on 23 April.
