My main inspiration comes from the Aztecs, the civilisation which has had the most predominant affect on Mexico. Their stone carvings and terracotta relief work influenced my choice of embellishment. The rich warm red shades associated with Mexico, particularly the housing, terracotta pottery and sunset, were the groundings for the colours I used in my design. I chose to use colour bleed, a current trend seen at Autumn/Winter shows, because the alternation of shades was alike a picture of a Mexican sunset I saw and I felt conjured up a feeling of the warmth.I decided on using silk chiffon in my design as I felt a dress in warmer fabrics would not reflect the Mexican climate so well. The chiffon moves gracefully but as a soft material it is a powerful contrast to the strong colours.
