I looked at traditional Mexican costume and Mexican landscape. I was extremely inspired by paintings of Xavier Castellanos in terms of colour as well as Frida Kahlo. I brought certain details of traditional men's costume to add an ambiguous edge, a slight rock 'n' roll feel. I also looked at children's clothing, this is where the length comes from. I looked at fabrics and decided to contrast velvet for the turquoise waistband, cotton and chiffon for the main body of the dress, satin for ribbons, and lace for frills on the hem. There will also be a certain amount of beading and embroidery based on Mexican motifs on the bodice. There's a fake button front (men's costume detail) with gold military-esque buttons, also repeated on the shoes and hotfix swarovski crystals on nech tie and shoes to add a little sparkle.
