MY Mexican Dress

After scampering through endless pattern books, fashion magazines and Internet resources I came across Mexican culture. It was there i found out about Mexican festivals and I found myself allured to the way in which they have 'fiestas' where everybody can let loose and have a great time, wearing whatever they like. Fiestas symbolize the very essence of Mexico and the Mexican people. They're colourful, vibrant, usually extremely noisy, often chaotic and always immense fun. I wanted this dress to portray a feeling of fun and character, originality and fire. I didn't want my design to be another boring dress that you will just say "next" to. I tried to bring out an essence of sizzle and fierceness, like a tiger as if it was pounding down the runway. I looked at various pieces of Matthew Williamson's beautiful and creative collections and stumbled across many that i felt succumbed to. I had a brief idea of the things that inspire him and tried to incorporate that into my own design. I love the way that my dress has two different sides to it, so as the dress was being worn down the runway it first shows one side and then as she turns the dress portrays a whole different feel. I also looked at Mexican food and various cook books that i found scattered in the cupboard, the back of my dress was strangely inspired by an upside down taco. I admired the way that a taco has a charming curve that seduces you to tuck into it. I wanted this to have a similar effect to my dress, to make you want to view the dress in closer detail. The last factor i included in my dress and was a main part was triangles and straight lines, the pattern on the front was drawn with a steady hand making it look as precise and sublime as possible. With a dazzling concoction of radiant colours and quirky patterns i wanted this dress to not only be in the competition, but for people to think of it as an admirable piece of work.Thank you for your time and i hope you like it.
