After researching Mexican history, heritage, art, culture, and climate I felt most inspired by Mexican carnivals, fiestas, and dancing. I chose to design a Mexican fiesta dress which was great for dancing in. I designed a mask as an accessory as they are worn at Carnival celebrations and are an important art form in ancient Mexican civilisation. The feather head dress I designed was inspired by the ones worn in Mexican carnivals and by the aztecs. The dress is made of cotton because it is the main mexican fabric and is cool to wear in the hot climate. The colours I used are bright and colourful, as seen in most Mexican dancers' dresses. The dress has many layers lined with lace as this is the style of Mexican dance costumes. I included replica aztec coins to include more of Mexico's heritage. The dress was also inspired by Matthew Williamson's distinctive style of bright patterned prints and I also tried to use a classic Matthew Williamson shape with a v neck and gathered waist. Floral prints, floaty dresses, bright colours, layers and frills are all emerging fashion trends. I thought they tied in perfectly with the Mexican theme so included them in my design.

The style reminds me of something from the 1800's, but also Mexican influenced at the same time. Very lovely. I even love the shoes.
