The inspiration for my dress was the Aztec humming bird god of Mexico, Huitzilopochtli, who was a god of war and a sun god and the patron of the city of Tenochtitlan.I chose this as my inspiration firstly because I felt it was an important part of Mexican history and also because Mathew Williamson used humming birds in his 2006 ready-to-wear collection. I took patterns from an image of the god as depicted in the Codex Telleriano-Remensis and used it as detailing for my dress. I also added some traditional Mexican touches such as the skirt. I used Matthew Williamson's jewel like colours, also using the typical Mexican colour palette. While looking through various fashion magazines I realised that the look at the moment is more feminine so I used a ladylike high neckline.
