Title: Times of Recession
Image by Liam from Lincolnshire | in art & design, 2d, painting
This surrealist painting is one which I did for GCSE. It symbolises the recession and the meltdown of the British Pound (hence the melting coins), and this element is supposed to mirror Salvador Dali's melting coins. The character in it, a banker, is bald to show stress and is represented as a robot as this shows how inhuman they are, working for bonuses rather than considering the effect on us, as well as how they think they are better than us. The paper is blank as to show that they don't actually know what they are doing, they just do it. The juxtaposition of the ornate mahogany table and the bog-standard classroom tile carpet shows how their flashiness is just a cover, showing their immaturity and lack of knowledge underneath.
