WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

See the winning entries:

Following a summer of scouring the country for the best in spoken word, six selected winners wowed the judges with their verbal acrobatics and were invited to take part in a two-day masterclass at The Poetry Society with performance poet Joelle Taylor.

One of this year's judges, Scroobius Pip, said:

"The styles were so varied yet all shared the same passion. The use and willingness to explore language with such creativity was amazing."

Here are just some of their reactions when we told the winners they'd won...

Amy:

"When I found out, I couldn't believe it! There was so much talent that had entered the competition, I felt privileged to be one the winners. It just goes to show when an opportunity comes along, grab it with both hands!"

Billie:

"Actually winning the competition was an eye-opener, that it's the quality not the quantity of your poem. Now I'm looking forward to the rest of my journey."

Having written lots of new work under Joelle's professional guidance and perfected their performance style, our winners then bravely took to the stage at our packed London showcase. Also performing was Joelle herself as well as renowned performance poets, Benjamin Zephaniah and Scroobius Pip, with music provided by DJ Excalibah. With subject matter ranging from the political to the personal, our winners really impressed.

Here's what some of the audience had to say:

"It was so amazing to see so many youngsters from all different backgrounds getting involved and enjoying it. I thought it would be deadly silent and serious, it has changed my opinions on poetry a lot."

"We had a wonderful time and you have converted five more poets. I thought the MC (Joelle) was wonderful and seeing Scroobius Pip and Benjamin Zephaniah was really special."

"I found the experience really moving and really humbling. I had shivers going down my spine on a number of occasions as some of those young people performed their work."
