I created this portrait of me in my art class, and then found the competition. After reading about each artist I decided that it was similar to what Ed Sheeran was saying. The portrait reflects the artist’s musical style and identity because when creating this piece I felt really passionate about completing it and also the use of colours reflect how I can be sometimes, a mix of different moods and how I link some colours to certain events in my life. It’s true that a song makes you feel a certain colour, so the mix of colour used on the piece could represent this. Life is full of colour; different, interesting, sometimes similar, but never the same. I chose this art form (a mixture of oil paints and oil pastels) simply because I had no paints available to use at home when I was completing the project, so improvised. In my design I used a close up portraiture shot in a variety of colour because it encourages the audience to want to know who this person is what each colour means to them and what story’s they hold which are then reflected in the songs.
