People really are quite voracious in their devouring of these things; I'm more than a little daunted.

Ah yes - I remember this too! I loved Derek and his new-found God-dom!
So do you find it easier to talk to a microphone than a cafe full of people?

It's quite different being in a room on one's own talking into a microphone, it buoys the spirits. I've done public speaking thingies in front of roughly three hundred people before but even I don't have the stones to act that much of an idiot in front of a cafe of people. Conversely, on my own, I can idiot it up all I like.
So to speak.

Ha, I can hardly even think of anything constructive to write, apart from that listening to this just made me incredibly happy, which is a rare feeling in the middle of essay writing periods and a rare feeling full stop, but it really did make me laugh &smile and even though you do speak quite quickly sometimes what you write about and the way you deliver it is just a joy to listen to. Full of charm and I mean it. This is one special gift you have Krazmaz.
And I am only sorry this isn't a video. Would love to see you reading it. Next step!!

I'm glad you have less reservations about recording stories for on here because I think you will be in serious demand from now on! I loved this one too, the unhelpful musicians reminded me of the minstrels from Monty Python's Holy Grail. Your recordings have certainly tempted me to try it myself, but I don't think any of us could follow your superb readings!

I feel like I've been put on something of a pedastal, hah; and I'm fairly sure people will be able to match my hamfisted quality. Or, at the very least, do something different which would probably be quite refreshing at this point.
Also: video?! Honestly, one would imagine my voice would be quite enough.

Sounds like there's a potential Jackanory here. In the description when you upload, how about telling us a bit about your inspiration or a bit about writing your stories eg how much planning did you do, or did you write it in one go or keep returning to it? You may have said all that on the MB but some of our Blasties may find your writing via these pages rather than the MB.

Heh, my inspriations are always refreshingly mundane or, in a lot more cases, mysterifyingly lateral. Kivenkantaja for example; named after a Moonsorrow song but having only one detail in common with it. And even then...
As for the process...swings and roundabouts.
