Title: Norfolk
by Rachel from Norfolk | in writing, poetry, story-telling
Come travel round my county,
It is to me my queen,
A beauteous bounty,
This for many is unseen.
I’ll take you on a journey,
Which leads through fields of gold,
And soon you will be yearning,
This land that is of old.
Come travel through the countryside,
And climb over the knolls,
For my stories not yet nigh,
So much has not been told.
I’ll take you to the market,
For in Norwich it does thrive,
Or perhaps you’ll see some caskets,
The castle has both kinds.
Come travel on the Broads with me,
Let your hand drift through the water,
We’ll glide past the towering reeds,
For to them we are much shorter.
I’ll take you to the coastline,
To the bonny Holkham bay,
Where footprints in the sands of time,
Are washed by sapphire spray.
Come watch the sun sink into the sea,
And the pearl rise from the depths,
Look at how stars wink at me,
This treasure must always be kept.
I’ve taken you across my county,
In the land where I shall stay,
A beauteous bounty,
The kingdom that shall eternally reign.
I wrote this poem when I was 15 and it describes my love of my county. It was published into the book 'East Anglian Poets'.
