Title: The man in the mask
by Bronwyn from East Yorkshire | in writing, poetry
Illusions and showmanship, means of deception,
Magical trickery, hints of suggestion,
Present to them cards and with great sleight of hand,
Astound them with magic they won't understand,
For life is a stage and you're the magician,
A confident trickster with mounds of ambition,
When secrets are hidden and truth becomes jaded,
They believe what they see with all lies masqueraded,
Fool with charisma distract them with charm,
Vanish your nerves like the coin in your palm,
If you slip in your trick then just play it by ear,
If attention is lost you can just disappear,
Bury your doubts with a hat and a cloak,
Pretend you have riches although you are broke,
Vary in forms, play the thrilling disguiser,
The swindled spectator remains non the wiser,
Captivate viewers with flicks of your wand,
Then reel them in slowly like fish from a pond,
Sweeten their taste as they sit there enraptured,
But don't lose the rod once the guppies are captured,
Practice your act till it's rich with perfection,
But play out your talents with a modest affection,
For the best of magicians will shade their excitement,
Being cool is the key to observer's enticement,
It's not just a case of the old 'hocus pocus,'
The show relies greatly on quick pace and focus,
Command an explosion and summon a genie,
Escape from restraints and live up to Houdini,
Keep the ball rolling when pressure is hard,
Amaze them with basics like 'this is your card,'
Take daring decisions and talent rich tasks,
But always perform as the man in the mask.
