Title: Building the 2012 Legacy
by Rebecca from London | in writing, non-fiction
The Olympics are coming to London in the year 2012, an event that will be both exciting and important for British sport. It's been estimated that millions will be spent on building for the games and some say this money will ultimately be wasted as building is likely to stop as soon as the games do. However the London Development Agency has started a campaign called Legacy Now, so that the citizens of London can get involved in the further regeneration of East London. As well as housing and more employment opportunities the more popular public suggestions include more parks and green spaces, and developing more youth facilities and activities. Environmental issues are also important for Legacy Now, high emphasis is being placed on keeping 2012 environmentally friendly, but the greatest importance is being placed on keeping a sporting legacy in the East London area after the Olympic Games.
I wrote this when I did a bit of journalism work for a radio station at the London Youth Games.
