Title: Child Abuse

by Charlotte from South Yorkshire | in writing, poetry

Hello
My name is Anna I am only 3ft 3.
And I used to think my Daddy loved me.
I'm sat in my room, alone and scared
I know what is coming for me soon at the top of the stairs
Normally I tip toe around
Trying ever so hard not to make a sound
If I did there would be hell to pay
Daddy wouldn't let me just slip away

Hush now I can hear he is home.
Slamming the door, and starting to moan.
I jump as he aggressively shouts my name
Racing up the stairs and to where I remain
My heart jumps out of my chest as the door bursts open
His fists clenched, and my eyes full of despair and emotion
He grabs my throat ready to pull me up with a look of disgrace
Hitting me again and again around my oh so young face
I start to scream Daddy I promise I will behave
But no amount of pleading will stop this pain
He picks me up and throws me towards a wall
I hit it hard and lay motionless on the floor

I know for sure my rib cage is broken
He disappears from sight leaving my door only slightly open
My head begins to spin and I lose my sight
I hear a voice saying there there child your life is over tonight
My name is Anna I am only 3ft 3
And tonight my Daddy murdered me

I once read a letter through a chain e-mail, it was years ago but the last part stuck in my head, ""my name is Anna I am but 3, and tonight my dad murdered me"", I have changed the but 3 part to 3ft 3, I have written my own poem and used those last lines as a finishing point, basing my poem around the idea of child abuse, I am currently studying A Level English and have decided that this piece of work can slot into my course work, any comment are welcome whether good or bad, I want to see what a wider audiences response is to this poem, if i get a good response I am thinking of making it into an advert for my course work using the media facilities at school, obviously it will never be aired on TV but could be a different twist on my course work, something visual to watch instead of it being written down. Thanks
