Title: Obama: Mediatic Miracle or Plausible President?
by Alberto | in writing, non-fiction
You've seen Barack Obama millions of times on television, newspapers, magazines' but who is he? Where does he come from? Most importantly, what does he have in store for one of the world's most powerful countries: The United States of America?
Barack Hussein Obama was born on the fourth of August 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Born to Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham, he lived in Hawaii until 1967 when his parents divorced and he moved with his mother to Indonesia. He studied at Columbia University and Harvard Law School. After graduating in 1979 he taught at the University of Chicago Law from 1992 until 2004. He is currently married to Michelle Robinson and has had two daughters with her.
Nominated for president in 2007 after serving seven years in the Illinois State, Obama is the first African-American in history to run for the White House. From early 2008 until June 2008 he campaigned against Hillary Clinton to become the Democrat nominee. In the first two months of his campaign against Clinton, Obama raised 90 million US dollars (double than Hillary). In August he chose Joe Biden as his vice-presidential running mate. He is currently battling John McCain and polls show that Obama has a 49.4% vote intention (330 electoral votes), while his rival has a 42.8% vote intention (178 electoral votes, and would need another 270 votes to win).
So, if he makes it to the White House, what will Obama do as president of the United States?
He promises to give health insurance to the 45 million Americans who don't have one already. He will create 5 million American jobs in the energy sector, investing 150 billion dollars over ten years, and producing energy to supply the United States. Another of his plans is to cut taxes by $1000 for 95% of American families and to boost income. Obama also tells us he will end the war in Iraq, but the question is: does Obama bring change we can believe in or change we can hope for? Election Day is the 4th of November and we'll see who gets to the Oval office; Obama with Big plans and Big spending or McCain with Less taxes and Less government.
American elections.
