Title: The Final
by Mark from Derbyshire | in writing, poetry
No points, dead heat,
Heads up, eyes meet,
Quick look, what to take,
Who'll be the first to break?
Test this, test that,
Hundreds of moves under your hat,
Quick swap, pawn falls,
Pawn avenged, stalemate calls.
1 pawn, 1 king,
No choice, must win,
G1, F2,
Must win, can't lose
She mirrors, copycat,
More moves under the hat,
Pawn forward, same again,
Who will win, and when?
Pawn falls, you rejoice,
She cries, no choice,
Throws her king to the ground,
Offer your hand; not a sound.
Show some spirit, grant her that,
On her head you place your hat,
She looks up, in confusion,
Thinks of all the new solutions.
The hat, the charm,
A gift, to stay harm,
She shakes, see's her dream,
Father, daughter, what a team.
The complexities of chess, but also the sense of competition that can develop within families, friends, etc.
