Title: Finding Never Land
by Jen from Northamptonshire | in writing, poetry
When I was 6
I watched Peter Pan
Indulged in Never Never Land
Crocodiles, pirates and adventure
Learning to fly with fairies
Sprinkling dust
Dreams come true
I dreamed
Yes for the first time
I dreamed
Dreamed of never growing up
Thought I would be 6 forever
Never grow up, never die
I just wanted to fly
I turned 7
No big deal
7 is just 6 + 1
Still growing up was years off
I would never grow up
Just grow down
I would never be 8
My 8th birthday came
And yet again
My head was in Never Land
9 10 11 came and went
I kept saying
I'm just like Peter Pan
I would never be 13
13 meant teenager
I would never grow up
Started secondary school
On that first day
Sitting on the bus
I will never grow up
I'm still 6
Jumping off my bed trying to fly
Throwing glitter everywhere
Sparkles in my hair
12 came
Everything changed
I was so close to being a teenager
Counting down the day
January turned to march
March turned to July
Summer had come
Year eight
I will not grow up
I can still get to never land in my head
Dreams of fairies and jumping off my bed
Learning to fly
I will not grow up
The night before my 13th
I was in a panic
I will not grow up
I will not grow up
Dug out the old video of peter pan
Watched it over and over
Again and again
Indulged in peter, Wendy and Michael
And all the lost boys
The next morning
I woke and I was 13
And it dawned upon me
As I stared at a balloon
Age is just a number
It's not what matters
You are however old you feel
And I don't know about you
But I'm still 6
I took a wrong turn
It 2nd star not 3rd to the right
Took me 7 years
To finally re-find
My Never Land
Just like the way people try and grow up too fast and the way adults complain about being old and of course Peter Pan.
