Title: Disasters

by Catherine from Northern Ireland | in writing, poetry

Air glides like an eagle,
Making a peaceful sound.
It feels refreshing
And tastes light and crisp,
Then changes in minutes.
It rips through the sky,
Screaming and howling
Numbing my skin,
Creating chaos throughout the town.

Flames flickering in the hearth,
Warming my cold feet,
It has a quiet roaring sound-
But is relaxing all the same.
It changes in minutes.
Black smoke smothering my lungs,
Blinding me as I try to find safety.
Rubble from the house fell upon me as
Danger crawled throughout my body.

The smell of natural earth
Spreads across the garden.
Newly planted flowers
Grow peacefully in the soil.
Then changes in minutes.
The earth trembles and falls upon me,
The stale taste makes me heave,
The gritty felling cuts into my skin.
Its smothers me until I can't breathe.

The water laps peacefully
As I sit and watch the sunset.
The sound of the sea is calming,
Quite warm to the touch.
It changes in minutes.
A huge wave grows taller and taller,
It crashes on the shore,
The water spreads everywhere-
Destroying everything in its way.
