Title: The wedding

by Thomas from Warwickshire | in writing, poetry

See the man at the alter
His words and thoughts guided by God
See his hangman, the Father
Speak words of unrepentant love

See the solemn gallows
The alter, a marble plinth
See the graceful swallows
Move the eye of the silent sphinx

See the bride dressed in shimmering black
A tear adorning each cheek
See the happy couple kiss
One marriage come, the other missed

See the guilt gold ring
Embrace the slight finger
See the plaited noose
Fall to his shoulders
Death does not linger

See his face
Grey in the harsh morning light
See her face
A bag turned her thoughts to night

See the sober morning sky
A black flag marks where she died
Hear the cheerful lark
Where it stays
Till death
do
us
part.
