Title: I Had A Dream

by Katie from Berkshire | in writing, fiction

I had a dream last night:

You were trapped in a cell, the four dark walls closing in on you with every hope of rescue disappearing from your sights. You had tried but failed many times before, and now you wondered how you had come to be in such a place. There was no light except the dim lines of day that filtered through the heavy bars of your door and into your chamber. You would watch as this light came and went each day, together with your brief hope that one day you might find a life away from this place.

I was lost - surrounded by the darkness, confused, and scared. I had no recollection of how I had come to this place, only that I had; and as I saw a faint flickering light in the distance, I knew I had to follow. I approached the glow with uncertainty and heavy footsteps, not knowing what lay at the end of my path but expecting nothing of great significance. But instead, behind those steel bars and fading light, I saw you.

I looked down; in my hand there was a key. I looked up; on your door there was a keyhole.

I did not know if it was the right key; or whether releasing you was the right action at all, only that I had to try.

I pressed the key to the hole and turned it slowly...

But, as I said, it was a dream and dreams are of little importance.
