Title: The Sparrow

by Louise from Derbyshire | in writing, poetry

The sparrow sings in another tower
I know I cannot fly
It was love that shut me here
And told me I must die
In dreaming of a prince, I know
I threw away my wings
Forever lost beyond the thorns
Adorned with pretty things
Watching from behind the glass
A silent statue head
Observing my prince solemnly
He dances with the dead
Is this the way it's meant to be?
Sealed behind a door
Why ever did you leave me here
To sleep forevermore
The sparrow sings for us, my dear
I sang for you in vain
Flying from this prison, love
To dance with you again.

I adore fairy tales, the original Charles Perrault and Villeneuve ones, having studied their language for A level.
