Title: Child in poverty

by Charli from Northern Ireland | in writing, non-fiction

Today I got up at 5:30 AM like I do every day. I got washed and dressed had my breakfast and then went out on to the farm. My dad had already brought the cows in and hooked them up to the machine so all I had to do was switch it on and collect the milk and take it to the dairy. After I did that I went in and put it in the pasteuriser so we are able to drink it. Then I went to the kitchen and made three loaves of bread for the day. I have to do this every day because my mum can't because she is very ill. My dad thinks we will lose the farm because we have to spend a lot of money on mum's medicine. I am the oldest child in my family. I am fourteen years old. There are seventeen people in my family. My mum, my dad ,my sisters Ruth and Greta, Kate, Alana, Caroline, Hannah and Lotta and my brothers Dave, Lee, Stephen, Max and peter, my Granny and me. We have a little farmhouse with three bedrooms. All the girls and my granny sleep in the biggest room. The boys sleep in the second biggest and my parents sleep in the littlest room. Even though we all have to squash in, we love the farm and our house. We may not have enough money but we are thankful for what we have.
