Title: What keeps us spinning

by Ellie from West Yorkshire | in writing, poetry

We look and see people all around us each and every day,
Just minding their own business and finding their way.
But have you ever noticed what the difference is between the happy and the sad?
What makes us a misery and what makes us glad?

I saw an old man all alone in the street,
There was rain pouring down upon him,
He had nowhere to go.
He tried to feed the birds,
But they all just scurried away,
They didn't even think to fly.
Tears ran down his cheeks
There wasn't a soul in the world,
Who would notice if he went missing that day.

I saw two old people in the street,
There was rain pouring down upon them,
I don't know where they were going,
They biggest thing that I noticed,
Was that they were happy,
Not a care in the world
As long as one hand was held tightly in the other.
If they went missing that day,
No one would notice.
But if he lost his footing along the way,
Surely she would notice and cry and cry all day.
If she went away and never returned,
Surely the world would never move again
For this old man she means the world.

Have you seen the people that walked down the street yesterday?
Those a pair before,
And times have become soar,
Did you notice a difference today?

The old man came back again after a while,
The birds just turned their backs and didn't want to know,
He sat on the steps,
And cried and cried away.
A small boy came to his aid,
A silver piece in his hand.
Sooner than you'd expect,
The man had a face full of cheer,
She was glad for the coffee,
He was glad for a friend,
What they both needed, was just a little bit of love.

I was just thinking really about who I know and also personally when I or they are happy, and when we are sad. So I wrote a poem about what I believe is the biggest influence on our mood.
