INT. SOPHIE'S HOUSE - DAY
Sophie (Year 10, age 15) comes in from school through the front door wearing a school uniform with a heavy bag on her back. She flings her bag on the floor and kicks off her flimsy shoes.
MOTHER 'OFF STAGE'
(Mother is OFF CAMERA or OFF STAGE)
Is that you Sophe?
SOPHIE
(Shouts back half heartedly)
No
MOTHER 'OFF STAGE'
(Calling)
Did you have a good day at school?
SOPHIE
(Murmur, Sophie gets her phone out of her bag.)
Uh-huh
MOTHER 'OFF STAGE'
Good. Get changed then and hang up your uniform.
SOPHIE
(Not paying attention and texting on her mobile)
Yep
MOTHER 'OFF STAGE'
(Calling)
Do want a drink and a snack? Have you got much homework?
SOPHIE
(Takes off her coat and scarf and throws them on a chair in the hallway)
What have we got?
MOTHER 'OFF STAGE'
(Calling)
Fruit
SOPHIE
(Concentrating on her phone and walking down the hall to stairs)
No thanks.
MOTHER 'OFF STAGE'
(Faint sound of Radio 4 coming from kitchen)
Have you got any homework?
(Sophie is walking up stairs texting her friends not paying attention to her mother)
MOTHER (CONTINUED)
Have you?
SOPHIE
(Paused at the top of the stairs but does not look up)
Have I got what?
MOTHER
(Losing patience. Shot of mother at the bottom of the stairs calling up)
Homework! Put your phone down and listen to me.
SOPHIE
(Still texting at the top of the stairs)
Uh I think I have some. I need the computer for it.
MOTHER
(Walking away)
Ok. Do your piano and flute practice first, then do your homework. Don't forget you've got tennis tonight so get a move on.
SOPHIE
(Mumbling. Sits down on the top step)
Great
MOTHER 'OFF STAGE'
(Calling)

SOPHIE
(Sophie pauses to think and looks up from her beloved phone)

SOPHIE
(Getting back up, groaning. Turns up volume of Ipod so she can't hear her mother)

INT. KITCHEN (CONTINOUS)
CLOSE UP OF MOTHERS MOUTH SHOUTING INSTRUCTIONS AT SOPHIE. WE CAN'T HEAR HER BECAUSE SOPHIE'S MUSIC IS TOO LOUD.
MOTHER
(Shouting)
Do your homework
Get changed
Don't forget do some revision'
My story is about a girl in year 10 trying to juggle her school work (GCSE'S) and out of school activities. There is immense pressure on teenagers nowadays so my script shows how teenagers are overworked and stressed and have no free time to themselves to relax or just daydream, without having a conscience that they still have homework or revision to do.
