Title: In a place we call society

by Samantha from Wiltshire | in writing, fiction

[Curtains open to show different stereotypes of teenagers (emos, chavs, etc.) talking. Alexis enters and walks CS]

Alexis:
In society, teenagers are labelled for who they are, how we dress and act. But are all like that?

[Stereotype teenagers come out of stereotype and begin to socialise with each other]

Alexis:
You shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Just because someone is dressed like a thug, doesn't mean they'll hurt you.

[Alexis drops her purse, a chav walks past, picks it up and walks off, exiting. Alex watches before looking back at the audience]

Alexis:
Maybe you should talk to us. We don't bite. Don't let the media warp your mind to thinking we're annoying brats that steal and bully.

[Chav walks back on and over to Alexis and hands over her purse]

Chav:
Here, I think you dropped your purse

Alexis:
Thank you

[Alexis takes the purse and smiles, turning back to the audience]

Alexis:
We're not what you think we are. We're human beings. We have feelings. This is my world. My life as a teenager.

[Teenagers walk off, leaving Alexis and the Chav alone CS]

Alexis:
Don't judge us

[The Chav heads for USR, Alexis still stood CS. Alexis looks over to the Chav who holds out his hand. Alexis smiles and runs over to the Chav and takes his hand. They both leave USR
Curtains close]

Alexis is a young girl, trying to show that teenagers aren't always stereotyped . I got my inspiration from my friends (I'm friends with different social groups) and I take sociology for GCSEs so I understand about how teenagers are being stereotyped because of the Media.
