Title: I want to go back
by Katie from Oxfordshire | in writing, poetry
Back to when I when I was always smiling instead of seeing through the fake ones,
To when I only cried if I grazed a knee, a hand, or lost a precious toy not over hurt feelings,
To when boys had 'the lurgie' instead of the power to control your smiles and tears,
To when all looking good meant was having the latest Barbie or chocolate bar instead of whether or not you'll have friends.
To when I'd never heard of diets or chavs not when they were forced upon you by culture,
To when I was oblivious to war and violence instead of seeing it everyday in the news,
To when the worst thing about smoking was the scary people who did it and the icky smell not watching your friends slowly kill themselves,
To when killing yourself meant giving up in cowboys and indians not when it was a last resort to too many loveless days.
To when child abuse was not getting pudding not being beaten to an inch of your life,
To when wearing posh jewellery was dressing up not a declaration of wealth.
I wanted to go back to my childhood basically, I was having enough of all the bad news that's in our world and my community. This isn't the full poem, just part of it.
