'My World - (being a young person in the UK today)'
SCENE 1 ' A youth is alone with a placard proclaiming 'Help Our Fellow Man!' They look into the audience.
YOUTH 1
This is what modern youth is about ' taking control! We care about our world around us. Change is our aim.
Another youth walks to join them. They stare at the floor before raising their eyes.
YOUTH 2
The earthquake knocked me down, my world was shattered and I needed someone to care. Someone who still had their world, who could share a piece of it with me.
A third and final youth walks to join the others
YOUTH 3
I was watching the TV as usual. An appeal came up to help some kids in an earthquake. I wanted to do something so I sent in some money.
All three now look to the audience clearly addressing them, together.
YOUTH 2
Someone did share their world, made it part of mine.
YOUTH 1
This is the youth today. Sharing , caring, hoping, saving
ALL THREE
Together.
They walk off, hand in hand; they are now together in one world.
END
It is an imagined situation in which an earthquake victim must rely on the help of foreign strangers to help re-build his world. It is a hopeful look at the attitudes of today's youth towards others.
