Title: Second Best

by Ruby from Warwickshire | in writing, poetry

You told me I could be your girl
Your heart, your soul, your world
But that was a lie
Unintentionally,
I know you'd never hurt me
But in my heart I know,
I'll always be second best.

I know I could never compare
To the one who's already there
You may have buried her memory
Beneath a shield of regret
In a tin box underneath your bed
Containing photographs and love letters
Marked 'do not open'

But when it comes down to it
Who's is the name etched upon your heart?
It's not mine,
No, it's not mine.
