Title: Hold The Line
by Tom from Staffordshire | in writing, fiction
'Oh God, please help me, I'm so scared', whispered the soldier from his cold, dry mouth.
'Stand and fight, you cowardly cur or I will shoot you!'
'But officer, I am too scared to even hold my rifle!' There was a sharp whistle and thud and the cold, limp body of the officer fell across Private Hale's lap. Already petrified with fear, Hale now froze. The sound of machine gun fire and mortar shells pounding the earth in front of him went quiet. He could hear the thudding of his heartbeat, the muffled shouts of the other soldiers around him. He knew this would be the day that he would die. Above the horrors of the surrounding battle he picked out three deadly words: CHARGE THE LINE!!!
