Title: The waiting game

by Katie | in writing, fiction

Darren jerked suddenly awake. He sat for a moment, eyes closed, before groaning and reaching for the coffee pot on the desk in front of him. As he gulped down the lukewarm liquid, his eyes travelled over his all-to-familiar surroundings.

Three months! Three months he had been trapped in this hovel. He had grown to loathe the moulding floor, the grotty walls, the lumpy chair. He hated the cobbled-together equipment, the coffee stained desk.

He poured another cup. That was another thing, the coffee was always cold. Grimacing as he choked down the foul stuff, his eyes flicked to the screen perched in front of him. Instantly, he was more awake than any amount of coffee could make him.

Something was moving.
