Title: Night
by Sarah M from Scotland | in writing, poetry
Do you see the Night?
She slips softly from her sunlight slumber
To put shadow on the day,
Holds the moon like a sacred spotlight,
The stars, a thousand candles
Suspended, almost floating,
On darkness' lapping waves,
The sea of navy-black;
Her body, lying upon the sky.
Do you see the Night?
She slips softly across the land,
Mingling gently with the evening,
Dimming even the darkest corners,
Flowing like a draught of sleep
Through the earth's endless veins,
Masking every movement
Until the night grows late.
Do you see the Night?
She is fading now,
Shrinking from the sunrise,
Dissolving into morning,
Growing lighter by the day.
My inspiration is obviously night and how it comes every day but I was also interested in words and using them to create the sound and atmosphere to depict what night feels like to me.
