Title: Mediterranean Landscape

by Suzy from London | in writing, poetry

Mellifluous jungle,
oh honeyed glade!
When Renoir painted
all your jewels
he worshipped every one.
He gently piled on sweetness
and talked of pinkish clouds.
He showed the wafting grasses
and yellow hopeful light
but far beyond this sugared work
a darkened space exists
and all his tigers, all their claws
(those foaming at the mouth)
all these beasts and all their teeth
lie (hiding) in the paint.

Renoir hints at furious things
between his twigs and soil,
but you and I will never know
his terrors in his oil.
