Title: A DISASTEROUS Blind Date
by Rebecca from London | in writing, fiction, short stories
People say that first impressions count but often, when you think back, it isn't what you saw that triggers the memory. A smell, a taste, a sound can haunt you. It's not always there, but every now and then you get a whiff, or a taste, or you hear something and suddenly you are back in that place, in that time, and itâs just like the first timeâ¦â¦â¦â¦

Even in my wildest dreams I canât think about it. Rachel would not believe me. Seriously, it was the worst date in âMY LIFEâ¦â¦.â!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know sometimes there are some things that can be stranger than rumours. The date I am talking about is farâ¦.. Moreâ¦..UNBELIVABLE. And a piece of advise - NEVER ask Amy for advice or to organise blind dates.
***
This is howâ¦â¦â¦it all started. It was Monday, start of the week. It was a sunny Monday. Valentineâs Day was very close. Only 3 days after, it was the day. Amy called out from far corner of the playground. Amy apparently was very excited about her dream valentine date. It was her first valentine with Jasper after all! Amy was very upset after breaking up with 5 of her ex-boyfriends. She always thought that her dream man has to be perfect. But none of her so-called âex-boyfriendsâ were perfect {to her}.
Amy came running and clashed into Kathy. After apologizing to Kathy, Amy looked at me and smiled. âHave a date?â Amy asked and dusting her jumper. âNoâ I said looking at my feet. âOh! Thatâs good thenâ said Amy looking pleased. âExcuse me?â I said, astonished at what she said. âHa Ha Ha Ha!!! I have a surprise for yeh. I think youâll like it. Iâll give to you on Thursday at my place at 8 âoâ clockâ she said with a wide smile, which reminded me of the Cheshire cat in âAlice in Wonderlandâ. âBut Thursday is Valentineâs Day. What am I supposed to do when you are with Jazz?â I asked frowning. âThatâs the whole point! You are going to have a blind date. We are going to watch a horror movie- Jazzâs favourite!!!â said Amy looking dreamily at the sky.
At last the day had come - Valentineâs Day. The day when all lovers meet to celebrate their love. There was a sweet smell in the air. Everyone said thatâs the smell of love. But to be honest I think itâs a bit stupid because if you really love a person, you should make him or her feel special everyday. Not just on specific day. But what the heck, who am I to say anything at all? Iâm the one who is boyfriend less and so desperate that I jumped on the first offer I got. Now how pathetic is that? But none the less itâs stupid.
Anyways, it was 8: 15. The entire school had plastic roses and heart shaped lollies and candies which their boyfriends gave them {I think! Or may be bought from shops?}. I had nothing of course. Then suddenly Amy burst into the classroom. She looked very excited. Amy had a bundle of real blossoming red roses in her hand and a pink and black bag. She ran up to me panting. She took a while to catch her breath and said âSee! Seeâ¦!â Opening the pink and black bag. There was cute little white teddy, a card and heart shaped chocolates. âDid Jasper give you all that stuff?â I asked surprised. âYes. He loves me soooâ¦â¦â¦ much.â Amy said gazing at her gifts dreamily.
After coping with double math, Spanish, science, history and ICT- I was finally free. It was time to go home. Amy was super excited. So was I. I just could not wait. âJane, wanna go shopping?â asked Amy beaming at me. âYeah⦠like I have got all the money on earthâ I said sarcastically. âOhâ¦.! Come on. You canât be soooo boring. And Iâm sure yeh donât want to wear your old clothes?â Amy said and giving the look which meant you have to. So as always she had to have her way. I sighed in defeat. âSo where do I get the money from, eh?â I asked. âDonât worry about it. You can borrow some money from me and give me back later. Is that all right? She asked. I nodded. âGood. Go home and change Iâll be waiting outside youâre your house at 3:50pm. Bye thenâ. Amy said. âSee you later then.â I said turning around and walking towards the back gate.
Amy was waiting outside. It was 3:50 exact. I came out and saw Amy with her Mum in her car. We got in the car. âMumâs dropping us to the mall.â Amy said and putting on the seat belt. The mall was very busy. We went to H & M. Amy bought a sparkling blue dress with matching blue diamond {fake} earring and a chain with blue heart on it. And a pair of blue heels. I bought a simple knee length, red dress, which had red squinty things on the bust and a designed net flowing on the skirt. I also bought red gloves and matching red earring, chain with a red âJâ on it and red heels.
It was 5:30pm. Mrs. Kenn {Amyâs Mum} was waiting outside. We went inside the car and showed Mrs. Kenn the stuff we bought. She loved my dress than Amyâs. But she just winked at me. We talked so much that I did not realize that we reached my house. âBye, Amy. Bye, Mrs. Kenn thanks for the lift.â I said with a smile and walking towards the door. It was 6:20pm. I was very nervous. My hands were cold. A shiver ran through my spine. After all itâs my first blind date! I rang Amy. The phone rang for a while then a reedy and deep voice boomed through the phone. âHello! Who is it?â the person asked. âHey Emmett, can I speak to Amy please.â I requested. âHold on please.â Emmett said. âAmy, Amy, Janeâs ON THE PHONEâ screamed Emmett. Then there was a pause. âSorry Jane, Amy is sleeping. Bye.â Emmett kept the phone down before I could say anything. I did not bother to ring her again. But I had a question in my mind. Why was Amy sleeping so late?
Oh well, It does not matter what sheâs doing. Itâs about ME. Itâs 7:10. It was time to get ready. Mum and dad were gone for their dinner. And Jacob {my older brother} gone to his date. I went to the bathroom to freshen up. Then I wore my dress, jewellery and heels. Curled my hair. And put some makeup on. It was 7:45. I put the gifts in the bag which I brought from the mall. Checked myself again in the mirror. PERFECT!!!!!!!! I was getting colder and colder. It was time to leave. I closed the windows, checked the electrical stuff and switched them off {just to be sure that they donât wreck my house}.Then locked the door. Amyâs house was a couple of blocks away, so I walked.
Her door was decorated with red balloons and strimmers. I knocked it. No answer. Then suddenly Amy opened the door. She looked very upset and her eyes were wary and puffy as if she was crying. It was 8â0âclock exact. âCome inâ she said softly. I sat down on the sofa. âHe stood me upâ Amy said and started crying. I was totally shocked.â WHAT?â I exclaimed. âYeah! Jazz had just called me. He said that he is breaking up with me. And yes, your blind date. He stâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â Amy said half finished when there was a sudden thud from the door. Like someoneâs entered and slammed the door.
We turned around. There were two boys standing. âSURPRISEâ exclaimed the two boys. âJasperâ said Amy running to the boy with blonde hair. He was the kind I liked. He looked really sexy. When I looked at him I thought he was my blind date but of course no he wasnât. He was Jasper-Amyâs boyfriend. There was another boy present who looked equally (actually better) smart and really, really sexy too. My type of course!!! He was tall and lean and had bronze hair. He had emerald eyes. And he turned out to be my blind date. I was very happy. âJazz, didnât you called me and said you broke up?â Amy asked. âI just wanted to surprise youâ said Jasper. âNow letâs forget it please and enjoy. And this is Marcus. And this is Amy, Marcus. Your blind date.â Amy said with smile. âExcuse me Amy can I talk to you for second.â I asked her and pulling her to a side. âLove you sooo much. Thank youâ. I said hugging herâ âI know. Good luck and enjoyâ she said with a wide smile.
Jazz pulled Amy away. I turned around saw Marcus standing with a card and chocolates. âHappy Valentineâs dayâ he said, I noticed that he had a nice cool velvety voice. He suddenly hugged me. Then he whispered in my ear âI hope you will enjoy and not forget itâ. And indeed I did not forget. Anyways, I smiled at him. The way he looked at me, made me feel warm, which made my fear and nervousness go away. I was like in the beach, the warm sun shining bright and blue sky and ocean. Thatâs how I felt when I looked deep into his eyes. He clicked his fingers. Then he handed me the gifts. For a moment I had no idea what was going on. But I figured out. Then I gave my gifts to him.âI really like youâ I blurted out. I donât know what was I thinking but it just came out of my mouth. But it was the truth.
By the time when all these events were taking place Amy and Jasper put the horror film on. The film wasnât very scary. We sat on the coach with popcorn and drinks. We laughed at some bits {because it was not very scary but a bit stupid and lame}. Except for Marcus. He was so scared that he was rocking back and forth, back and forth with his legs together. He was holding the coke and popcorn which was shaking vigorously. He was murmuring something under his breath. His facial expression was terrifying. I just touched his shoulder lightly to say it was not that scary and everythingâs really okay. But before anything could come out of my mouth, he turned and screamed his guts out. We all were so shocked that we all screamed too. The popcorn and the drink flew up in the air as Marcus jumped up and everything landed on me. Including Marcus! My hair became soggy, so was my pretty dress. I was in a mess. âGet off me you foolâ I shouted my guts out. Everything became silent for a while. âIâm sorryâ he murmured. I got up and walked furiously towards the door. âStop...Pleas______â before Amy could say anymore I slammed the door shut behind.
I never forgot that day. And from that day onwards I never saw or spoke about Marcus. Neither did Jazz or Amy. Jasper wanted to say something {later} but I ignored him. Amy squeezed his shoulder for a signal not to talk about it. Of course he was gorgeous. But what happened was just absolutely ridiculous. The next day everyone gossiped about us that we slept with our boyfriends and blah, blah, blah. You know how gossips are like.
This is my weird blind date story. But I have learned a lesson- that never go out for blind dates if you do not know how your blind date is going to be like. When people talk about it I just laugh it off. But deep inside I knew how I felt. And hey! Life is all about experiences and this was one of mine. Maybe next year I will go off to search for my real, true love. Maybe.
The end
This is a blind date story. I entered it in my school and came second! I hope you guys like it.
