I produced this tutu for an art project. My inspiration came from Africa. I looked closely at the Yoruba tribe, animals in Africa, patterns and shapes found on clothing and their language. The top band of the tutu is made from an old pair of zebra print jeans.I then developed shapes and patterns from my research. These patterns were then used for the design of my patches. I monoprinted each pattern onto the patch, used fabric inks and hand stitched them onto the base of the tutu design( a template I made from cotton fabric).I then used a fusing fabrics technique to make smaller patches these were hand stitched too.Several layers of pale blue netting was added and small beads for detail.
