I was rubbish at writing anything at school and always counting the words in an essay to see how much I had written. I even WROTE IN BIG LETTERS TO MAKE IT APPEAR LIKE I HAD WRITTEN MORE but it didn't work. It actually frightened Miss Thomas, my English teacher. Oh Miss Thomas. I felt sorry for her and the other single teachers at our school, female mainly.

I went to Handsworth Grammar School for Boys. Enough said. To be honest I haven't really lost my adolescent years, which brings me neatly on to my radio show. I guess I should talk about it, given this blog has been set up by my lovely colleagues at the ´óÏó´«Ã½.

I've now done 4 weeks of The Adil Ray Show on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Asian Network (weekdays 6-9am on DAB, Online, Digital TV; Freeview 709, FreeSat 709, Sky 0119, Virgin 912 and good old Medium Wave) and it's hard work I tell you! Some stuff takes longer than you think. Do you know how tough it is to come up with something highly original? Check this out: A story about a dog from the slum on a game show. Inspired isn't it?

It's probably the most challenging bit of radio I have done. I ain't just talking about getting up at 4am either. If only you knew what went on behind the scenes. Can you believe I have to make my own porridge in the morning and sit Wax on my knee and feed him his daily dose of farley's rusks.

I have to say I'm enjoying it. At the end of the day (or start of the day) I am just trying to be myself - playing music and talking inbetween. It has served me well thus far. I spend most of the day writing notes on my phone, thinking about what I can talk about. It works most of the time, conkers in the bathroom; lions on gate posts; eastenders nookie; my Mum's telephone manners and holes in the road. Honestly they sound great on the radio. Some ideas clearly don't make it - however good they seem at the time - such as "who watches channel 948 on Sky?!" and "did you see the..." It's usually at this point I realise even admitting watching this stuff could be dangerous.

Anyway, it's the weekend now and I intend to write to you 3 times a week my lovelies. If there's anything you'd like in writing on next weeks blog, post a comment here.
