Have the Sex Pistols given up on re-releasing God Save The Queen, to mark the forthcoming Diamond Jubilee ? I think they did it for the Golden, which was, that's right, ten years ago but the foundations of the state didn't shake, as they did in 1977.ÌýThe establishment realised it was , after all, only a record. A great record, admittedly. If they are planning it, they'd need to get their finger out.

There's a Sex PistolsÌýlink this week with the McCarthy song, in that Peregrine Worsthorne , former Sunday Telegraph editor, once swore on Nationwide. Of course many people would have been close to swearing watching Nationwide, but it turns out that he was the second person to say what is coyly referred to as the 'eff word' live on TV. The first was Kenneth Tynan, and the third was one of the Sex Pistols. From my memory of the famous Billy Grundy incident, the swearer was Steve Jones. Exalted company, Peregrine.

Wonder if the Rubinoos ever acknowledged their nod, nae, their full-on headbang, towards "Get Off My Cloud" in the chorus? Love the Ramones' "...Boyfriend," of course, but the Rubinoos "...Boyfriend" charms with its unabashed exuberance, earnestness, handclaps and harmonies. And it's fun to dance to. Lloyd Dobler could have blasted either of those from his boom box and got the grrrrl.

How funny that the Shop Assistants from Edinburgh had such top knowledge of American brews.

Cheers Mickey for yet another outstanding show.

Great to hear the 4 Skins on the radio. More old time Oi! bands please!!!

Good point about the Rubinoos, PDX, but if everyone who owed anything to the three chord trick that Get Off My Cloud itself borrows, then we'd be spending the rest of our lives acknowledging some obscure bluesman who no doubt died in dire poverty without ever getting the recognition or royalties that he deserves. Unless he's already got his dues from the devil, that is. And Harry, I will continue drilling for oi.

HaHa, right-on Mr. B. "Borrowing" is rampant in all art forms. Reminds me of a quote attributed to Oscar Wilde, "Talent borrows, genius steals." x
