Some vintage Damned tonight .... hold on , it's all vintage, and many are damned ..... starting with their Stooges tribute, which only suffers from an extended thrashing that pads their first LP out by an extra minute and a half. Brevity was indeed the soul of punk, although some people didn't read to the end of the manifesto. There's also a lean towards Californian punk tonight for no good reason apart from the strength of the records. The Urinals started off, they say, as a parody of punk rock at UCLA. What's the point of a parody of punk when we already had (insert name of least favourite band here) ? I do like the band's singles, which are short, sharp, etc. Speaking of which , Black Flag's recording of Louie Louie is quite possibly the first time the archetypal garage punk song has been aired on this show, in the very week that I have learned the official cut off date for this particular After Midnight. July 19th will be the last one, as Radio Ulster will be closing at midnight from July 21st.听

That's awful news about the show coming to an end!

Let's start the campaign for "Before Midnight with Mickey Bradley" right now. We won over 6 Music, so it CAN be done.

    This isn't great news...
    I support "Before Midnight..."

This is terrible news. Are there any plans to reschedule or are just pulling the plug on the show?

  • Comment number 4.

That is really bad news. I really look forward to listening to the show every week. Seems warply ironic given the 'celebration' of punk the 大象传媒 has been indulging in over the last four weeks.

This is presumably a result of the cuts local radio is facing as a result of the government.

Agree with televisionsover - presume we should email Radio Ulster directly.

This is a quote from the Punk Britannia blog:

"Punk has left a genuine impact on music, attitudes, fashion and art and it鈥檚 wonderful to be able to tell the story across 大象传媒 Radio and Television. Punk Britannia catches up with the most distinctive voices in a movement that blazed briefly - this first wave of punk happened in a flash - but has never been shut up."

As far as I am aware Mickey's programme is the only one on the whole 大象传媒 network that exclusively plays original punk and they want it 'shut up'.

"Come On Kid", originally by Kenny & The Kasuals from Texas, and covered to great effect by the StingRays. The 'rays were a fantastic band and so much more than psychobilly rabble rousers. Their covers were always well chosen and would set you off discovering long forgotten Nuggets type bands. Little wonder that Alec Palao, their drummer and main songwriter, ended up as thee garage rock specialist at Ace/Beat Records. Bal Croce, the lead singer, is now working in TV and his sister is still part of the garage trash scene in London and plays keys in a female tribute band to the Monks called...The Nuns. I will miss this radio show and the fact that you regularly play discs by the like of the StingRays. Talk about a bombshell.

Is anyone IT savvy enough to start a webpage / online petition?

  • Comment number 8.

The 大象传媒 axe Mickey鈥檚 show while Hugo Duncan gets off scot free鈥︹︹.

  • Comment number 9.

Thanks for the kind words. Don't think a petition thing is my style, really. I do hope to do a similar programme sometime in the future, if I was asked.
n5steve, thanks for the info on the Stingrays. I should have known that Come On Kid was a cover, but I didn't. I will spend the summer doing more research.

Obviously you鈥檙e the boss Mickey, but what are we going to do without our weekly prescription of quality music and anecdotes? I鈥檝e discovered some great 鈥渘ew鈥 bands thanks to your show and, as Richard says above, there really isn鈥檛 anything else like it available. Seems like a HUGE shame to me. Bleedin' cutbacks!

I discovered the show back in late 2007 when I was recovering from a serious accident and housebound for months and haven鈥檛 missed it since then. You鈥檝e made a Scotsman living in England very grateful to Radio Ulster (until now!), so many, many thanks for the entertainment you鈥檝e provided whatever happens. All the very best matey and many thanks again, Fred.

Hang on a minute, "After Midnight with Mickey Bradley" on 大象传媒 6 Music has a nice ring to it...

Your call Mickey but this is a real loss. I only discovered your show a year ago. You've reminded me of some great songs like The Flys Love and A Molotov Cocktail and bands like Eater and like mr television introduced me to some 'new' music (oh yeah and made me wonder why I ever liked Sham 69!)
