Next week's themes...

Bryan Burnett | 19:45 UK time, Friday, 20 June 2008

Looking forward to getting your suggestions for this week, particulary Thursday night's Top of The Pops memories. I deliberately made the it last show of the week to give you plenty of time to get them in.

I hope you like the new look blog. I do, but my producer Barbara did suggest that I should have had my 'crow's feet' done before they took the picture. Thanks boss!

I'd love it if you left your comments ( on the show not on my wrinkles!), but the one change is now that you need to register before you do. Don't worry, you only need to do it once and you won't get spammed or anything like that.

Get posting then...

400_tv000216954.jpgMonday:
Reg Dwight, Declan MacManus and Gordon Sumner could all feature on tonight's show. The theme is 'stage names' and it's been suggested by David in Coatbridge. E-mail in your suggestions to getiton@bbc.co.uk or leave a comment on the new blog...

Tuesday:

Steve Firth has suggested 'iconic first lines' for tonight's theme. His favourites include " now Ziggy played guitar..." and "Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away...". Let's have the opening lines that make you sit up and take notice...

Wednesday:

Tonight's (show) theme features parenthesis in pop. I ( Who Have Nothing) is a good example, but what are the greatest 'open brackets - close brackets' songs of all time?

Thursday:
Sam Marsh suggest Top of The Pops as a theme, so what are your memories of the greatest music show of all time. E-mail your fave ToTP memories or leave a comment on the blog...

Hi Get It On listeners! Producer Mandi here.

If you're reading this, then you've found the new Bryan's blog - congratulations! Both the new and old Radio Scotland sites are running in tandem at the moment but here is where you need to post your suggestions.

As the blog seems to be unnaturally quiet this week, we're feeling lonely so please get in touch and let us know you've managed to register ok. It takes a few minutes to fill in the boxes but only needs done once.

There's still time to choose your iconic first lines for tonight's show, either on the blog or at getiton@bbc.co.uk. Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Producer Mandi

    Brackets - (My Baby Does) Good Sculptures - The Rezillos;
(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes or (I Don't Want to Go To) Chelsea - E Costello (whose Glasgow Concert on Sunday was great).
    The Magic Piper (of Love) - E Collins;
Thank You (Fallettinme be mice elf agin) - Magazine; The Bitterest Pill (I ever had to swallow) - The Jam; (Dawning of a) New Era- The Specials.
    Best wishes

    Bryan,

Thanks a million for playing my stuff on last nights show, it was great to hear Martin Stephenson on the radio again. And I dont think I will ever hear Racey being followed by Death Cab for Cutie ever again either! as for tonights show on first lines what about:

"Midnight to six man, for the first time from Jamaica...." The Clash

    or

"I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour..." The Smiths

    or

"Slip inside the eye of your mind..." Oasis

    or

"A distant echo of far away voices boarding far away trains...." The Jam

That'll do for now. And thanks again Bryan!

The music this week has been fantastic and I bet everyone is really enjoying the two hour slot!

Bobby's mix tape was fantastic and he also has his usual great suggestions for the opening lines.

For parenthesis night I want, as usual, to suggest some of the Boss who went a bit crazy on The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle with...

4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) and

Rosalita (Come Out Tonight) of course the come out tonight being the most important part of the song and his call out to Rosie! Thanfully re-appeared on this years Magic Tour and jsut about brought the house down.

But please dont play the awful 57 channels (and nothing on).

    Other suggestions......

Talking Heads - Born Under Punches (and the heat goes on)

Trisha Yearwood - Believe Me Baby (I lied)

Neil Young Roll a number (for the road)

Josh Ritter - Wait for Love (you know yuo will)

Bob Dylan - Senor (Tales of Yankee Power)

Primal Scream - (I'm Gonna) Cry myself blind

    Cheers

Way-hay!! I got into the secret blog at last. Thanks for the guidance, Mandi.

Parenthetical songs: "I Know What I Like (in your Wardrobe)" Genesis; "The Psychedelic Warlords (Disappear in Smoke)" Hawkwind; "Voodo Chile (Slight Return)" Jimi Hendrix.

In a real retro mood this week (and every week). See - paranetheses rool!

    Two for Thursday's programme,

Sparks- This Town Aint Big enough For The Both of Us.

Would they have made it had it not been for Russel on TOTP?

If I Had a Million Dollars by Bare Naked Ladies.

Had they put (I'd be rich) we'd have suggested it for last night.

From Donna flying to Scotland and Bryan on Skye (watching planes!)

  • Comment number 11.

Just in from Lou Reed's performance of Berlin in Edinburgh. Great stuff and he is never likely to grace anything like TOTP.

    Some fum memories though....

The Rezzilos Top of The Pops - gotta be tonights opener.

The Gallachers swapping places for Roll With It as a protest about the miming.

And of course who was more bewildered Van, Cliff or the Audience when Van and Cliff performed Whenever God Shines His Light.

Personal memory.....the Boss broadcast live from the SECC belting out Lucky Town....in a way I've been on TOTP!!!

    Cheers

Re ToTP: I've already emailed in Bowie's "Starman", which was probably single-handedly responsible for Glam, punk and NuRom. Oh well, 2 out of three ain't bad.

Others would have to include Alice Cooper's "School's Out" from much the same era; that crap Pans People dance to Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Get Down" (hilarious); the Smiths and Killing Joke looking slightly out of place in the 80s, and not too much else, to be honest.

ToTP was always pretty poor, even with Peely on it.

BTW - would it be more sensible to separate the days' themes within the Blog, so that they're easier to access and view as the week goes on? Do like the real-time updating, though, I always used to worry whether my posts had got through or been lost somewhere in cyberspace.

  • Comment number 13.

    Just like that!
