The night Dolly wooed us all....

I saw Dolly Parton play at the weekend. Which was very entertaining. Last time I saw Dolly in Glasgow it was a fairly serious musical affair with Dolly pickin her way through the material from her acclaimed albums on the Sugarhill bluegrass label.

This time around it was like a full on hen party with thousands of sparkly pink cowboys hats snaking their way along the corridors of the SECC the most charmless music venue in Scotland.

Several of the blokes had decided to don dolly grab for the gig. It made for quite a contrast from the kagoule clad throng headed for Radiohead in the rain.

Dolly has always attracted her fair share of female impersonators. She tells us that when they come to the show she changes the words of her famous hit and sings, "Drag queen, drag queen, drag queen, I'm beggin of you please don't take my man..."

She does a lot kind of banter between songs - "I need the money cos it costs a lot to looks this cheap" - which delights the crowds but sells herself short. I just want to say to her, "Dolly, you are a talented and respected performer and songwriter. You are a clever and successful businesswoman. You don't need to do big boob jokes to get us to love you."

And we would love her with or without the surgery which is rumoured to include a browlift, breast augmentation, upper and lower blepharoplasties (eyelid lifts), rhinoplasty, a facelift or two, facial fat grafting, botox, and some chemical peels. As Dolly herself admits, "If I see something baggin', saggin' or draggin' then I'll go get it fixed!"
