Me and Mr Jones....
If the Welsh Tourist Board were to produce their version of the cringe worthy Caledonia TV ad then I daresay Steve Strange, Tom Jones, Shakin' Stevens and Lisa Scott Lee from Steps would all be called upon to lend their support.
Wales is the latest nation to feature on Get It On, so get in touch tonight with your suggestions.
As well as being great singers ( well apart from the one from Steps!) the Welsh love a nickname. It seems that it's down to the fact that in many communities people are likely to share a surname like Jones, Thomas, Davies, etc. The nicknames are the way to tell them apart.
"Jones the voice" sounds good but I'm not sure if "Steve the strange" is how he'd really want to be known.

Dave Murricane was producing, and originally had the fiddler from Wolfestone make the recording, but he didn't like it. I got drafted in to rewrite the tune and make it more idiomatic. We did that, and even re-recorded all the backing keyboards, guitar etc. Eventually, when we were finished, we duly sent the tape to Dave...
He didn't like it! However, his solution was to strip off the backing track completely, leaving only a solo fiddle as the title track to the vid!
...and they never sent me a copy!

Tuesdays show was a real emotive classic for me, nearly every track was from either a much loved album, or memorable concert!
Anyway, Caledonia adverts.... In the late 80s/early 90s I lived in Germany for 8 years. I had a video tape of the 1990 Tenants lager advert (available on youtube these days) with Frankie Miller's version of Caledonia. Late night outbreaks of melancholy would often feature the ad being played repeatedly (beer was possibly involved)...
Cheers!

But if that won't be played, I would recommend the only cover of Caledonia that I have ever liked - the version by the late John Wright. He just died last year and made a version of the song that spans the close historical connection that exists between Scotland and Frisland (part of Holland) and has been celebrated by those of us who have studied the language and history of those two countries for a long time.
The two countries have very man y words and customs in common that you just wouldn't believe it! Glaswegians will be familiar with the expression 'going the messages'. Well when you translate that into Dutch it STILL makes sense!
I would love to hear that track played on GIO.
